Addictions Counseling Certificate Program (ACCP) Graduate/Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

The Addictions Counseling Certificate Program (ACCP) provides students at the graduate level who are enrolled in the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with the educational content necessary to apply for chemical dependency counselor licensure in Ohio issued by Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board.

The certificate is available as a standalone credential or can be seamlessly integrated into the Master of Public Health concentration in Social and Behavioral Sciences. The certificate is offered through a collaboration with the Counselor Education and Supervision program in the College of Education, Health and Human Services and can be completed in person at the Kent Campus.

In addition to the MPH Major Requirements, students enrolled in an MPH and admitted to the Addictions Counseling graduate certificate, need to complete the following courses:

Concentration Requirements

  • CES 6/77664: Theories and Practices in Addictions Counseling1
  • CES 6/77692: Practicum in Addictions Counseling2

1 Students in SBS will take the CES 6/77664 course Theories and Practices in Addictions Counseling in place of SBS 63030 Seminar in Social and Behavioral Sciences.

2 Students in SBS will complete the CES 6/77692 course Practicum in Addictions Counseling in place of SBS 60192 Applied Practice Experience in Social and Behavioral Sciences.

  • CES 6/77665: Treatment Planning in Addictions Counseling
  • CES 6/77666: Evidence-based Practices in Addictions Counseling

Q: Can I earn the ACCP certificate while pursuing an MPH concentration other than Social and Behavioral Science?

A: The ACCP certificate can be taken as a stand-alone graduate program or integrated into the SBS curriculum. Speak to your advisor about how the ACCP might work with another program.

Q: I previously completed an SBS MPH. How many credits would be required for me to complete the ACCP?

A: If you previously completed the SBS MPH, you must complete all 15 credit hours of the ACCP.

Q: Does the Public Health degree meet eligibility criteria for LCDC licensure in Ohio?

A: Yes. See the list of Behavioral Science degrees that the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board names eligible.
