College of Aeronautics and Engineering EXPO and Naming of Plane

September 7, 2019
Kent State University Airport

What do you say when you name is emblazoned on a plane? I googled exactly this phrase, but I got no returns. The best I can do is say thank you. And it is a heartfelt thank you. I am honored by this gesture.

Growing up in south-central Kansas, not all that far from McConnell Air Force Base, I spent hours looking up in the sky to see jets, and mostly their contrails, crossing the sunny skies. To think that I’ve arrived at this point is unfathomable to me.

Thank you, Dean Bloebaum, both for your kind introduction and for your outstanding leadership and service.

And welcome both to the College of Aeronautics and Engineering EXPO, and to our great, new FedEx Aeronautics Academic Center. Thank you, FedEx. We would not be here without you.

Thank you, as well, to Stow Mayor John Pribonic. You and your city’s support of our airport is much appreciated.

Thanks are also in order for the various businesses and groups providing gifts and services today.

And, finally, if flying is on your bucket list, please take a flight today in one of our beautiful Kent State airplanes. If your name is Cessna, or Piper, or President Todd Diacon, the plane will even have your name on it!

Enjoy the EXPO. Thanks again to everyone, and Go Flashes!
