Association of Ohio Health Commissioners partners with CPH Graduate Student for Social Media Campaign
In Fall 2020 the Association of Ohio Health Commissioners (AOHC), which represents Ohio’s 113 county and city health commissioners, reached out to Kent State’s College of Public Health with a problem: How do local health departments build trust with their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic?
College Of Public Health Expands Interprofessional Education Program, Assisting Local Health Care Partners
The College of Public Health will take the lead creating an expanded Interprofessional Education Program (IPE) for students across the university. IPE brings together multidisciplinary teams of Kent State students and faculty to address local health care needs. The College of Nursing, College of Communication and Information, College of Architecture and Environmental Design and more will partner for the IPE program.

James Hardy found his passion for a future public health career while working in the Kent State University President’s Office. “I was working at KSU and thinking about graduate school,” said James. “I looked at a number of programs and then chose public health because it included all aspects of my passions - community, housing, development - it was the perfect fit for me.”

Deric Kenne, Associate Professor in the College and Associate Director of the Division of Mental Health and Substance Use in the Center for Public Policy and Health. In primarily teach Program Planning, Implementation and Evaluation, in the MPH program.
CPH Alumni Inducted into Canadian Red Cross
College of Public Health Alumni Jeffrey L. Pellegrino, Ph.D, was inducted into the Order of the Red Cross in Canada in November, 2020. Pellegrino graduated in 2013, with an MPH in Social and Behavioral Sciences. He is the 318 member to be inducted, and the first Non-Canadian.
Dr. Sheryl L. Chatfield To Become Ohio Journal Of Public Health Editor
Dr. Sheryl L. Chatfield, assistant professor at the College of Public Health, will soon serve as the full time Editor of the Ohio Journal of Public Health. Dr. Chatfield will begin her term in June 2021, overseeing the online open access journal that provides commentary, education, and peer reviewed research about public health in Ohio.
Public Health Management Course Hosts Summa Health President And CEO
Summa Health President and CEO, Cliff Deveny, M.D., shared his time as a virtual guest presenter for Kent State College of Public Health undergraduate students on December 9 for the “Leadership and Management during a Disease Outbreak” course module. Dr. Deveny discussed Summa’s extensive communication program, collaborating with area health care systems, public health agencies and state government in the midst of a pandemic.
CPH Alumni Jason Zibart named Arizona’s 2020 Rural Health Day Community Star
Jason Zibart, BSPH, alumnus of Kent State’s College of Public Health, is Arizona’s 2020 Rural Health Day community star. Zibart works as a Community Development Specialist at Benson Hospital, located in Benson, Arizona.
Registered Sanitarian/Registered Environmental Health Specialist Exam Preparation Course for Environmental Health Professionals
Kent State University will now offer a Registered Sanitarian/Registered Environmental Health Specialist Exam Preparation Course for environmental health professional trainees to help prepare them for their national credentialing exam.
Giving Tuesday Fundraising Recap
The College of Public Health’s Future Public Health Leaders Scholarship Fund raised $34,331, a record amount, during Kent State’s annual 2020 Giving Tuesday celebration.
