After the recent death of John W. James, one of the founders of The Grief Recovery Method, the Grief Recovery Institute encourages donations to support further research conducted by CPH alumna Dr. Rachael Nolan and Dr. Jeff Hallam.

Over the past several years, Nolan and Hallam found evidence that The Grief Recovery Method is an effective community-based program for those experiencing grief. These findings have been presented at numerous conferences regionally, nationally, and internationally and most recently in June 2019, when their work was presented at the International Grief Recovery Conference. “Our research provides evidence that The Grief Recovery Method is effective at influencing components related to grief, and ultimately promoting grief recovery,” said Hallam. Currently, Drs. Nolan and Hallam are conducting collaborative research with an Akron-based non-profit organization that provides the program to previously incarcerated Black men.

Dr. Nolan is an assistant professor in the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati and an advanced-certified grief recovery specialist.  Dr. Hallam is professor and associate dean for research in the College of Public Health and an advanced-certified grief recovery specialist.

The Grief Recovery Method is delivered on all continents (except Antarctica) and translated into 20 languages.
