Crisis Intervention Team
Crisis Intervention Team
The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Program model is a community initiative that emerged in Memphis, Tennessee that seeks to bridge the gap between police officers and the mental health system. The model is designed to create partnerships between law enforcement, behavioral health professionals, service recipients and their families. CIT helps to provide a forum for effective community problem solving and communication. Research also shows that communities that prescribe to the CIT Program model have higher success rates in resolving crisis situations.
We started our CIT program in 2007. Since that time, we have trained the majority of our officers in the CIT program model. Officers are readily available to help any individual in our diverse community experiencing a mental health crisis and refer them appropriately. We then collaborate with other various departments on campus for follow-up care.
