Classes

When is the first day of classes?

Fall 2025 classes begin Monday, Aug. 18. 

If you don't have a class scheduled for the first day of the semester, you don't have to come to class or log in to your online class.

Where can I find my schedule?

View your class schedule in FlashLine. Once signed in, go to Student > Courses and Registration > View or Print Course Schedule and Purchase Textbooks.

Pro tip: An "R" on your schedule = Thursday

You can also download the KSU Mobile app for quick access to your schedule.

How do I access my online classes?

Kent State University uses Canvas to deliver online courses. Go to www.kent.edu/canvas or sign in to your FlashLine account and click the Canvas icon in the upper right.

How do I change my schedule?

Our advisors are here to help! 

Before making changes to your schedule, you should connect with an academic advisor. Reach out to your campus's advising staff.

How do I know where my class is located?

In FlashLine
Review Course Schedule: Question and Answers for details on how to read your class schedule in FlashLine, including 9. Location. Your campus building and room number will be listed.

  • If you're unfamiliar with your campus building locations, contact your campus's Student Services Office for assistance.

Financial Aid & Billing

How do I view and pay my bill?

View Billing & Payments on the Financial, Billing and Enrollment Center website. Here you'll find information on how to view your bill in FlashLine, payment options, payment plans, how to make online payments - and more!

Be sure to pay your bill on or before the due date to avoid class cancellation.

How do I get my Kent State FLASHcard?

Stop by your campus's Student Services Office during the first week of classes to get your FLASHcard. 

Be sure to bring a state-issued photo ID with you.

Tuscarawas Campus students only: Stop by the Network Services Helpdesk on the second floor of Founders Hall to get your FLASHcard.

If you are a 100%-online student who is not able to pick up your FLASHcard at a Kent State campus, you can complete the FLASHcard Distance Learning Application available on the FLASHcard website.

How do I get involved on campus?
Is tutoring available to students?

Yes! We have free tutoring, offered in person and virtually.

I had an IEP or 504 in high school and/or have a documented disability. How do I apply for accommodations?

Student Accessibility Services (SAS) is available to assist you. Connect with the SAS representative at your campus.

Textbooks & Technology

Do I need to have my textbooks on the first day of class?

Ideally, yes. 

To find out what books you need for your classes, sign in to FlashLine > Student > Courses and Registration > View or Print Course Schedule and Purchase Textbooks.

Make sure you have all the materials marked as “required.” If a book is “recommended,” email the professor from your Kent State email or wait until the first class before purchasing.

Where is the bookstore located?

There are two full-service bookstore locations at Kent State:

You can purchase or rent textbooks and course materials, order spirit apparel, supplies, technology and other student essentials through the bookstore website, powered by Barnes & Noble. Items can be shipped to you for a fee.

Sign in to the site with your Kent State credentials to automatically link to your course schedule.

Do I need special software or hardware for my major?

Most majors do not require special technology. Check the Technology on Campus page for more information. 

All Kent State students get a free subscription to Microsoft 365 and have access to Google Drive.

Parking & Housing

Do I need a parking pass at a Regional Campus?

Parking is free at all Regional Campuses!

Stark Campus students only: You are required to register your vehicle before receiving a parking hang tag.

If you have classes at the Kent Campus, visit Parking Services for information on permits.

Do Regional Campuses have residence halls?

No, Regional Campuses do not have residence halls. All students commute to campus using their own transportation or public transportation.

FlashLine Information

How can I update my address, phone number or chosen name?

Sign in to FlashLine and click on Settings in the left-hand side menu. 

Here you can edit your FlashLine profile, choose which campuses you'd like to view information, change your address or phone number, update your email, change your chosen name, add emergency contacts, and much more.
