Kent State Student-Athletes Complete Record-Setting Spring Term in Classroom

Kent State University student-athletes conquered the unprecedented challenge of completing the final months of the spring term via remote classes by posting the highest term grade point average (3.563) in athletics department history. All 17 programs posted a term GPA of 3.1 or better with 14 setting a new term record.

A record 75 student-athletes were named to the President’s List with a perfect 4.0 GPA. A total of 292 student-athletes (69%) finished the term with a 3.4 or better.

Following the record-breaking semester in the classroom, the Golden Flashes now boast the highest cumulative department GPA (3.331) in school history, extending it to 17 straight terms with a cumulative 3.0 or better.

Six programs – gymnastics, men’s golf, volleyball, lacrosse, women’s golf and field hockey – posted a spring GPA of 3.7 or higher.

The gymnastics team led the way with a department record 3.889 GPA. All 20 of the team’s student-athletes posted a 3.4 or higher with 10 earning a perfect 4.0.

Every member of the men’s golf team earned a spot on the President’s List or Dean’s List to contribute to a program record 3.798 term GPA.

Volleyball finished with a record 3.775 in the spring, marking the sixth time the program has surpassed a 3.6.

Eight additional programs – women’s track and field, soccer, baseball, women’s basketball, men’s track and field, wrestling, football and men’s basketball – earned their best term GPA ever.

Kent State has 77 student-athletes who earned their diplomas at spring commencement or will complete their degrees during the summer term.
