Review of Rules Could Help 'Books to Prisoners' Groups
A review of Ohio prison regulations could make it easier for charity groups to donate used books to Ohio prison inmates.
Many state prisons have adopted policies that prevent inmates from receiving used books. Those rules, however, are being reviewed, after concerns raised in the media by non-profit groups who send books to inmates, according to a report by www.cleveland.com.
The groups include Kent Books to Prisoners, a Kent State student group.
After concerns raised by non-profit groups whose book donations have been thwarted by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, the state prison system has agreed to review its policies to make sure they are consistent at every prison and allow for book donations.
