Safety Policy

1. The instruments hosted in the characterization facility may pose potential danger to personal and environmental safety. All users must follow closely the lab policy, instructions from the staff and signs in the labs.

2. Sign-in and sign-out: the users are required to sign in at the beginning of usage and sign out at the end by following the instruction of the lab staff.

3. After-work (e.g., evenings and weekends) use of an instrument has to be granted by the lab staff on a case-by-case basis. The users and the lab staff must make sure that immediate help is available in case of emergencies.

4. A list of chemicals used in the facility is available online or from the lab staff. If the user plans to use any chemicals not included in the list, the user must report to the lab staff before bringing the chemicals to the lab.

5. The users must follow the lab instructions on how to properly dispose waste chemicals, oils, sharps, etc.

6. Some of the instruments involve heavy use of liquid nitrogen and other chemicals which may cause personal injury in case of mishandling. To gain access to the training and the use of these instruments (mostly included in the advanced trainings), the users have to demonstrate good experimental skills and good understanding of the techniques, determined by the lab staff.

7. The experimental data are routinely backed up by the lab staff. But the users are ultimately responsible for the backup and safety of their own data.

8. The lab computers are used for data acquisition and analysis only. The users should not download or install any software.

9. No food and drinks in the lab areas.
