Academics

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers a full range of degree programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Undergraduate students can choose to pursue a B.S. in Chemistry, B.S. in Biochemistry, or B.A. in Chemistry. The B.S. in Biotechnology is administered jointly with the Department of Biological Sciences. A minor in Chemistry is also offered.

At the graduate level, the Department offers the M.A., M.S., and Ph.D. in Chemistry. There is also a combined degree program - the B.S./M.S. in Chemistry.

Students from Kent State and across the nation can apply for our National Science Foundation-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program, administered jointly with the Advanced Materials and Liquid Crystal Institute (AMLCI). REU is a ten-week summer program that allows participants hands-on experience in Chemistry and AMLCI research laboratories, in addition to a stipend.
