Expressive Arts

We believe that children's and teacher's inquiries are initiated, sustained, and extended via process-oriented engagement with vibrant, challenging, and open-ended materials.

Our classrooms have a variety of materials and tools available each day for children's exploration, design, and representation. Our Studio, originally inspired by the Ateliers in the schools of Reggio Emilia, functions as a public space within the school wherein teachers and children can engage in various material processes - printing, painting, drawing, sculpting, building, costuming, mapping, and sociodramatic play. In collaboration with the studio teacher, teachers and children display and document this work, creating material installations in our school which invite study and reflection.
