International Students

Online Class Limitations

All of the degrees offered in the School of Information are delivered in an online format. Some VISA or government-based scholarships restrict the number of online courses an international student can take, either in a semester or in total for a program. Therefore, an iSchool degree may not be suitable for international students who plan to pursue a degree by attending courses on the Kent State University Campus. However, since coursework is delivered online, a student may complete a degree from his or her home country.

International students should contact the Office of Global Education with questions about admissions or about attending an online program in the United States.

English Language Proficiency

All international applicants whose education has been primarily outside the United States must provide objective evidence of proficiency in the English language with some exceptions. To determine whether you will be required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores, see the English Language Proficiency page on the International Admissions site.

To be considered for full unconditional admission, international students whose first language is not English must take one of the following tests and receive a minimum: TOEFL score of 600 on the paper-based test or 100 on the Internet-based test IELTS score of 7 on the IELT MELAB score of 88.

Students who have already completed a degree in a post-secondary institution in the United States may be exempted from this requirement. For specific information about the TOEFL or IELTS requirements, please visit the English Language Proficiency page , or call 330-672-2444 or 1-800-988-KENT.
