Biography

Tang Tang (Ph.D., Ohio University) is a professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the School of Digital Sciences at Kent State University. 

 

Dr. Tang’s primary research has focused on uses and effects of emerging media technologies (e.g., social media, virtual reality, esports), and sports communication, particularly cross-platform media behaviors during mega sporting events. She has published journal articles in Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, Mass Communication & Society, Computers in Human Behavior, Journal of Medical Internet Research, International Journal on Media Management, Journal of Media Business Studies, Communication and Sport, International Journal of Sport Communication, Journal of Sports Media, Journalism and Mass Communication Educator, etc. Dr. Tang also co-authored Strategic Social Media: From Marketing to Social Change, and co-edited Handbook of Media Management and Business. Her research has been recognized through over 20 Top Paper Awards from the Broadcast Education Association and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

 

Dr. Tang teaches courses in social media, media management and entrepreneurship, mass communication theories, and quantitative research methods. Her enthusiasm and effectiveness in teaching has been evidenced by various teaching awards including: The Television Academy Faculty Fellowship; International Radio and Television Society Faculty Fellowship; NATPE Faculty Fellowship; Time Warner College Professor Thought Leadership Fellowship; and Distinguished Teaching Award from the Ohio Communication Association.

 

Currently, Dr. Tang is Chair of the Sports Communication Interest Group at the International Communication Association, and Academic Referee for the International Olympic Committee. She is also a past Chair of the Management, Marketing, & Programming Division at the Broadcast Education Association. Before joining Kent State, Dr. Tang taught at the University of Akron and the University of Wisconsin.
