Advising

Students in the School of Multidisciplinary Social Sciences and Humanities are often asking "big questions," driven by curiosity across subject areas in their learning journey. Because this work so often engages substance from a variety of fields, a network of advisors can be beneficial for student success. The School encourages this and facilitates it wherever possible! We strongly encourage our students to consult regularly with a professional academic advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences office as well as with faculty advisors from the School.

Schedule an appointment with one of the stellar academic advisors in the College of Arts and Sciences. We strongly recommend meeting with your advisor once per semester, and scheduling these appointments well in advance of your scheduled "My Time to Register" window

For students who would like to explore the options inside the School, Undergraduate Coordinator Dr. Andrew Barnes (abarnes3@kent.edu) is available for consultation. For students interested in program-specific advising within the School, we have faculty within each major and minor who are experts both in their field and in academic advising. Please consult the list below to find the faculty person providing advising in each programs:

Finally, we strongly encourage students to also consult with faculty advisors in their cognate work in other departments, particularly when conducting research or completing other majors or minors. We are happy to help you find the best contact in other departments and assist with creating those networks wherever possible!

Excellent advising is key to student success. Kent State University and the School of Multidisciplinary Social Sciences and Humanities are committed to providing students with every advantage possible. We want to enhance student learning; ensure that one's undergraduate career is fulfilling and personally relevant; and to make each student's academic journey successful. Please feel free to contact the School Director, Dr. Mazzei (jmazzei@kent.edu) or Undergraduate Coordinator Dr. Barnes (abarnes3@kent.edu) if you need further direction, guidance, or input with advising. We are here to help!
