Donated Chemicals

The Chemistry Department does not accept donated chemicals without prior approval from the DCHO. Very often, the chemicals are near their expiration date or are in quantities that will not be used. In addition, the purity cannot be verified because the containers have been opened. The University ends up paying for the disposal of those chemicals that are deemed unacceptable. Disposal costs are expensive, and the University spends much more than the original cost savings. The University is then the new generator of waste and is responsible for it forever.
