You Shared. We’re Moving Forward.

The Golden Future Survey invited Kent State employees to share their perspectives on the university’s future. We are grateful to the 676 employees who responded, offering ideas, identifying opportunities, and reminding us of what matters most.

Student Success at the center

More than half of respondents identified Student Success and Retention as our number one priority. This reminds us that, regardless of our roles, our work helps students succeed and continue toward graduation.

Your responses also highlighted three areas for exploration:

  • Employer, Industry and Community Partnerships
  • Student Workforce Development and Career Readiness
  • Online and Adult Learning Pathways

The President’s Cabinet has formed working groups to explore these opportunities, build on work already underway, and recommend next steps.

Investing in what makes Kent State strong

Beyond these opportunities, employees emphasized the importance of investing in our people, protecting academic quality, supporting regional campuses and ensuring that change is communicated clearly and implemented thoughtfully.

Many of these themes reinforce findings from the 2024 Engagement and Well-Being Survey. A Cabinet-led working group is reviewing that feedback and identifying opportunities for action.

What’s next?

The survey is one part of an ongoing conversation about Kent State’s future. As the working groups begin their efforts, we will share updates and additional opportunities for employees to contribute, beginning in spring 2027.  If you haven't had a chance to share your thoughts yet, the survey is still open, and we'd love to hear from you.

Sarah Shendy
Class of 2006

Every time I visit Kent State University, I can’t help but think that that one decision I made to go to the police academy turned into this. And by "this," I mean a life that I don’t need a break from, a profession that I love, and a career full of good stories and fulfillment.

There is no place like home, and Kent State is home to me.

Thomas Haren

I got my dream job, teaching life science and biology and sharing my passion with thousands of students. It never seemed like work because I enjoyed every day of teaching.

Joseph Vignos

I got to live in Denmark as an exchange student, and after getting my MA in 1995, I went on to teach in the Middle East and Asia. I met my wife while teaching in Japan.

Aseel Bondagjy

My education at Kent State laid the foundation for everything I have gone on to achieve. The knowledge and mindset I developed there continue to drive the strategic, collaborative and results-driven approach I bring to leadership today.
