- Ohio Public Employees Retirement System - OPERS is the retirement system for Kent State University employees. Ten percent of your wages are automatically deducted for retirement; we do not withhold for Social Security. While working for Kent State University, you will be automatically enrolled in OPERS. As a Graduate Appointee, you may exempt yourself from OPERS. You have 30 days from the start of your employment to complete the online exemption form. If you don’t complete the exemption form, you must contribute to OPERS. There will be no exceptions made to this rule. If you are an International Student, you will enter the last 4 digits of your Kent State ID number, and your kent.edu email to access this form.
