Graduate student paper wins award at 2018 GSA Conference
Catherine Ruhm's 2018 GSA paper, Soil Properties Impede Reforestation of Abandoned Mine Sites in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, was selected for the 2018 Geology & Society Division Best Student Paper Award. The mission of GSA's Geology & Society Division is to advance the concept of "geology working for society," by providing GSA members with opportunities to bring together multiple fields of geoscience in order to address important societal issues. The division actively hosts interdisciplinary symposia at national and regional meetings, provides forums to help its members effectively communicate with decision makers and the public. Catherine's paper was rated highly in both quality of presentation and connection to society. Congratulations to Catherine for her achievement in helping to inform public policy.
