Kent State University’s (KSU) Precision Flight Team won the coveted American Airlines Safety Award and the Collegiate Aviation Progress Award in the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) 2019 SAFECON Competition May 13-May 18.
This year’s event took place at the KJVL – Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport in Janesville, WI. Four Kent State airplanes, two 172 and two 152 Cessna Aircraft were used in the competition, which was the final collegiate competition for five graduating College of Aeronautics and Engineering flight technology seniors.
“This is the first time Kent State University won the American Airlines Award,” says Flight Team Coach and faculty member George Armann. “The team organized the Aeronautics Safety Conference to pursue two specific awards – the Loening Trophy, the rarest and oldest of all collegiate aviation awards and the lauded American Airlines Safety Award.”
The team will compete in NIFA’s Regional Competition this October in Columbus, OH.
