Paige Ursetti, BIS '22

“I knew I wanted to be in the health care field, but not quite sure where, or what I wanted to do,” says Paige Ursetti, a recent BIS graduate. “After studying for a semester in Florence, Italy, I took some time off and decided to change my major from pre-med to nursing. I thought a lot about being in the right program for my success, and the right time to enter the workforce, since it was during the COVID outbreak.”

As a full time employee and full time student, Paige had to consider her educational needs, her learning style and preferences, and her work schedule. She ultimately chose to complete her degree in the BIS program for several reasons. “The BIS program gave me the freedom to choose the classes I was interested in, and to pick from lots of options that were a-synchronous—meaning I could listen to the lectures and participate in online conversations, etc. at my convenience after work or on weekends. I took classes in sociology and psychology and discovered that I really liked exploring and understanding the social and economic determinants of healthcare outcomes, which, in turn, helped me to decide the topic of my senior project.

Dr. Odell-Scott was great to work with and helped me see the big picture and choose my path. My advice to new BIS students? Reach out to Dr. Odell-Scott right away! He’s a great person to talk to, and he offers excellent help and support.” Paige is now enrolled in the highly selective accelerated BS Nursing Program at the University of Miami, FLA, where she now resides.
