School of Theatre and Dance department wins multiple awards for program, production and professionals

At the beginning of the 2018-2019 academic year, Kent State University’s School of Theatre and Dance was nationally recognized and added several new awards to its collection.

The musical theatre program and the design, technology and production program each were selected recently by On Stage Blog as one of the top 25 programs for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Ranking both Bachelor of Fine Arts programs at No. 18, On Stage noted how Kent State’s multi-faceted program in design and production focuses on developing students’ skills, as well as learning traditional and new methods of theatrical design and technology.

The musical theatre program prepares students for life as working artists in the musical theatre field with fully developed skills in music, dance and acting. The design, technology, and production program prepares students for careers as professional theatre designers, technicians and artisans.

The Porthouse Theatre, Kent State University's summer professional theatre, also received multiple honors for achievements during the 2018 Season, highlighting School of Theatre students and directors. In addition, the Porthouse Theatre was recognized with awards in multiple categories by Cleveland SCENE magazine, the Cleveland Jewish News, and the Cleveland Critics Circle.
