    Biography

As photography evolves in the digital age, the treatment of the photographic image becomes limitless. Built upon the traditions of photography’s past, new developments in technology and usable materials continue to push the photographic process. As a teacher, my intent is to foster the student's understanding of photography’s history and theoretical concerns while expanding their aesthetic and conceptual possibilities within this digital framework. As each student continues to grow both professionally and personally, it is my passion to pass along the skills necessary to adapt to this exciting and evolving field.

Jaime Kennedy is a Professor in the School of Visual Communication Design. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree at The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Photo Illustration at the Rochester Institute of Technology. After completing his degree at RIT, Jaime went on to work within the commercial photography field and was employed at the photo studios of the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY. Upon his relocation to Cleveland, Ohio, he continued to work full time at a commercial photography studio and as a freelance photographer until 2004.Prior to teaching at Kent State University, Jaime has taught commercial photography at the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. He has also taught beginning and advanced photography and digital media for the Photography and Art and Technology departments at The Ohio State University. During his employment at OSU, he earned a Master of Fine Art degree in Photography.Currently, Jaime is actively creating and exhibiting his photography/digital artwork. His photographic narratives are digitally constructed from the use of illustration, sculpture, photography, and printed text, which are then traditionally printed using several antiquated and historic photographic processes. His works have been shown at the SRO Photo Gallery at Texas Tech University, Museum of Fine Arts at Florida State University, Ohio Arts Council Riffe Gallery in Columbus, Ohio, Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, The Arlington Arts Center in Arlington, VA, Dayton Visual Arts Center in Dayton, Ohio, The Cole Arts Center in Nacogdoches, Texas, Space Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio, among others. He has also been featured in Studio Visit Magazine, PBS Ohio, and has won numerous awards and grants including an Individual Excellence Award in Photography from the Ohio Arts Council in 2007.  His work has won numerous awards and grants including an Individual Excellence Award in Photography from the Ohio Arts Council in 2007, a Fergus-Gilmore Materials Grant, Memorial Scholarship, and Purchase Award in 2005, and a Kodak Illustration Award at the acclaimed Eddie Adams Workshop in 1999.
