Scholarships

The School of Visual Communication Design at Kent State University offers a variety of scholarship opportunities for students enrolled in our programs to help manage school expenses. Scholarship awards can be based on a variety of criteria, including academic merit, talent and demonstrated financial need.

Before submitting the application and uploading supporting documentation, students should review the individual eligibility criteria. All students will need:

  • Completed ScholarshipUniverse application
  • Completed FAFSA
  • GPA as of the previous semester or most recent high school semester
  • Uploaded portfolio of 5-10 pieces available online

Returning students will also need:

  • To have at least a 2.5 GPA
  • To be enrolled in a VCD degree program
  • To be a full-time student
  • To have completed 12 credit hours as undergraduate or 6 credits as graduate student

The application window for CCI Scholarships is now open for 2024-2025!

Students are encouraged to file the FAFSA now that the Department of Education has opened the application for the 2024-2025 academic year. To ensure maximum financial aid eligibility, complete the FAFSA no later than February 1, 2024.

While not all scholarships are open every semester, a wide-range of opportunities exist with varying criteria such as financial need, academic merit, program specific, or activities and interests. The application window for the 2024-2025 award cycle (summer 2024, fall 2024, spring 2025) opens on October 1, 2023 and will close on February 29, 2024. Be aware that internal scholarships throughout Kent State University as well as opportunities external to KSU may still be available for 2023-2024. Please see the University Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid for more information.

Kent State's ScholarshipUniverse is the search portal that helps match students to scholarships. To get started, you will need to complete a Student Profile. The questions asked will help match you to scholarships. While you do not have to answer all of these questions – the more you answer, the better your search results. In addition, ScholarshipUniverse is able to match students to external scholarship opportunities.  Students will need to complete a separate application for each scholarship.
