CAE Alumni Awards

The College of Aeronautics and Engineering (CAE) is proud to recognize outstanding, notable and accomplished alumni and friends of CAE. The recipients of Alumni Awards, except where noted, are degree holders of an undergraduate or graduate program in the college.

Members of the CAE Recognition Committee determine the recipients from nominations that are received from alumni, faculty and staff each year. All nominations received will be considered eligible for two years. Deadline to submit nominations: March 1, 2018. The awards will be given out at the Vision 21 Awards Banquet, which will take place on April 27, 2018.

Submitting a Nomination

You may submit multiple nominations for each category. Please be prepared to provide the following information for a nominee:

  • Degree type (undergraduate or graduate) (if applicable)
  • Degree concentration (major or specialization area, area of concentration) (if applicable)
  • CAE graduation year (if applicable)
  • Current place of business (if known)
  • Email address (if known)
  • Phone number (if known)
  • Composition of no more than 500 words explaining why your nominee should receive this award (may be copied and pasted into nomination form)
  • Option to upload nominee’s resume and or other supportive materials

ALUMNI AWARDS


Distinguished Alumni Award

The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes an alumnus or alumna who has made distinguished and outstanding contributions to his or her profession or field of interest over the course of 25 or more years. This award winner has brought benefit to his or her community and honor to the College of Aeronautics and Engineering by embodying the values and spirit of CAE. This award is the highest honor bestowed by the college.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Must be a graduate of CAE or an alum of one of the predecessor programs
  • Must have achieved broad recognition for extraordinary creativity, advancement of knowledge or technology, performance or the advancement of mankind through application of his or her CAE education
  • Must have demonstrated exemplary service to the college.

Professional Achievement Award

The Professional Achievement Award recognizes an outstanding alumnus or alumna of CAE who has achieved exceptional accomplishment in his or her career and has brought distinction to himself or herself and CAE through the benefits of vocation and leadership in his or her professional community. The winner of this award will have been recognized at the regional or national level for accomplishments.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Must be a graduate of CAE or an alum of one of the predecessor programs
  • Exemplary professional or career achievement rooted in a CAE education

Young Alumni Award

The Young Alumni Award recognizes an outstanding alumnus or alumna of the College of Aeronautics and Engineering who is 35 years old or younger. The award is given to an alumnus or alumna who has demonstrated excellence in his or her professional field and/or has demonstrated service to his or her community, the public or humanity, embodying the values, spirit and pride of Kent State University.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Must be a graduate of CAE or an alum of one of the predecessor programs
  • Must be 35 years old or younger (as of December 31 of the year nominated)
  • Exemplary professional achievement and/or demonstrated service on a local or national scale, rooted in a CAE education

Distinguished Contributor Award

This award winner has consistently provided financial support for the College and or its programs The Distinguished Contributor Award winner has created a lifetime legacy through his or her commitment to CAE. This award recognizes significant service to CAE by any alumnus or alumna, staff member, faculty or friend of the university who has given their time, expertise or leadership generously, thereby ensuring the prolonged welfare of the institution for future generations.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Must be a graduate, staff member, board member, faculty or friend of CAE
  • Must exemplify service to the CAE community
  • Must have invested in CAE scholarships, programs or projects

Faculty Award (Selected by Dean, CAE)

This award will be given for outstanding contributions in a specialty area. The award recipient will be selected for significant contributions in the field of basic or applied research, creative production or other scholarly achievements. He or she will have achieved recognition among colleagues in the discipline for productive research or creative work; will have made a concerted effort toward the advancement of his or her scholarly discipline; possess the highest ideals of scholarship; seeks intellectual and professional growth, as a member of a specialized discipline and as a participant in the academic affairs of College of Aeronautics and Engineering (CAE). He or she demonstrates an interest in fostering the intellectual growth of students, stimulates and promotes student scholarship and is active in professional associations. This award winner contributes to the institutional welfare of CAE.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Nominees for this award holds a regular appointment at CAE at the rank of instructor or higher
  • Faculty members awarded in a given year are not eligible for re-nomination in the same category for a 3-year period
  • Each nomination is for an individual, not a team effort

Staff Award (Selected by Dean, CAE)

The College of Aeronautics and Engineering honors one staff member annually for his or her excellent performance and their outstanding contributions to the college.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Nominees for this award have worked full-time for CAE for a minimum of two years. Part of the mission of the College of Aeronautics and Engineering includes the creation and dissemination of knowledge in a friendly and supportive atmosphere for the benefit and welfare of all people. Nominees for the awards will be judged on the basis of their performance in advancing the College of Aeronautics and Engineering toward these goals. Additionally, the staff member exhibits exceptional work performance, regularly participates in CAE events, is helpful to colleagues and is a proven leader.

Van Deusen Award Recipient

This award is presented to an individual who is an alum or friend of CAE. He or she has made a significant contribution to the college and its programs. The contribution may be in the form of financial investment, time served on a committee or CAE board.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Must be an established friend or graduate of CAE or an alum of one of the predecessor programs

Corporate Hall of Fame Award

This award is given to a company that has supported CAE by providing funding for new technology, expansion or student scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Nominees for this award have provided funding within the past 18 months to CAE
