The Polydisciplinary Lens encompasses a wide variety of art & design projects by Joseph Silvestro, adjunct faculty member in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. Recently graduated from KSU’s Visual Communications Design program, with a BFA (Painting) from Washington University in St. Louis, Joe is developing an approach to making things that is untethered from the traditional silos of art, design, architecture, and civic engagement. Artificial Christmas trees inspired by Isamu Noguchi Akiri sculptures, paintings which blur the line between low and high art, a replica of a voting machine to engage would-be voters, silicone models of urinal cakes with embedded messaging, silkscreen prints addressing personal matters involving death and grieving, a video of a poem set to the sound of birds chirping, and a project documenting nine years’ worth of photographs of his son in the act of viewing various paintings by Mark Rothko are all presented on equal footing.

Stop by the DI Hub in the Design Innovation Gallery for the Artist's Reception on November 21, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
