  • Major and Career Exploration
  • Professional Preparation

Each topic addresses specific learning outcomes comes with asynchronous career content and activities and/or assignments for students to complete to assess learning.

A few examples of how Career Academy content could be used include:

  • Faculty assigning content in place of a class they need to miss
  • Academic Advisors referring students for career and major exploration

  • Instructors or Campus Advisors assigning to prepare for scheduled presentations/workshops through CED

Instructors may choose to embed any number of topics and modules into their courses, picking the relevant topics for their students.

Career Academy FAQs

How is the Career Academy accessible for students?

Career Exploration and Development has made an effort to create a course that meets the needs of our diverse student population. The course was build to be accessible and offer a variety of modalities to meet different learning needs. Documents are inserted into the course for use, a variety of modalities, including written, visual, and auditory, are included and language was chosen that most students can relate to.

Is Career Academy content relevant to my students?

Career Exploration and Development recognizes that when it comes to career education, there is much information that is specific to industries and roles.

Career Academy content was designed to be accessible and usable by all students in all industries and areas and does not include industry specific content. Industry specific content may be added by the instructor to supplement the existing content.

For additional questions about industry specific content within Career Academy, please reach out to Julie Paskiet at jnovotn9@kent.edu.

How do I import content from Career Academy?

For a step-by-step guide on how to copy content into your Canvas course from the Canvas commons, please refer to this page.

Can I import just part of a module?

Yes, you can select only certain topics, assignments or quizzes you'd like to copy into your course. However, the easiest process is to import the entire module and then delete or unpublish the information and activities you don't need or want.

Can I edit/change the questions and information?

Yes, once the content is copied into your course, then you will be able to edit any of the content you'd like. We do ask that you do not remove the Sign In Form from the content as that is how we collect valuable data about the Career Academy content from students.

Which topics should I use for my students?

Any of the topics can be used with any group of students, whether undergraduates, graduates, first year, etc. Some might be more helpful at different stages and some recommendations are provided on the Topics and Learning Outcomes Download Topics and Learning Outcomes spreadsheet. Feel free to contact Julie Paskiet jnovotn9@kent.edu if you'd like to consult on which topic(s) to choose.

After completing a topic/module, is there something more in-depth I can do with my students?

Yes! You could request a presentation. from the CED team to provide a more tailored approach to the topic you completed or to provide an activity in class.
