The advisory board for the Kent State Salem horticulture program recently met and received updates from administration, faculty and students.
Dr. Steve Nameth, campus dean, shared his ideas for expanding the horticulture program and showcasing it across the region. Noting that the horticulture degree program is unique to the Salem campus, he assured board members that updates to curriculum, staff and resources will enhance the program’s reputation for quality instruction.
Validating the quality of education within the horticulture program on the Salem campus, three current students spoke to the board and shared their experiences. Zak Powell, Julie Kline and Robin Cannon each spoke about being challenged in the classroom and in the field, and how well-prepared they are for the professional world.
The Kent State Salem campus offers a bachelor’s degree in applied horticulture and an associate degree in horticulture technology.
