Instructor to be Featured Speaker at TedxKentState

Speaker Says Young People Have Power to Solve Problems Related to Sexual Harassment, Dating Violence

Pamela Harr, an adjunct professor in the Kent State University School of Communication Studies, will be a featured speaker at the second annual TEDxKentState.

Hosted by the Kent State Undergraduate Student Government, the TEDx event is themed “Pale Blue Dot,” referencing the smallness of the Earth but the importance of its history, passions, lessons and potential for the future even in “the grand ethos of the universe.”

Over four hours, the TEDx event will feature four sessions with a total of 12 speakers, each emphasizing a topic related to the purpose of life; social change; and the different ambiances, cultures or experiences from around the world. 

Harr will speak in the final session, where she will talk about how sexual harassment, dating violence and sexual assault are all problems that young people can solve. In her talk, Harr will discuss a system of that is being used nationally that can help prevent and bring more awareness to these issues.

Besides her work at Kent State, Harr teaches high school English and Women’s Studies and Literature. She also serves on the advisory board for Safer Futures in Portage County. 

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. Tickets are available online. Student seats are $10; all others are $15.

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to “ideas worth spreading,” usually formed in short, powerful talks. The talks are led by some of today’s leading thinkers and doers, including Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, David Blaine, Stephen Hawking,
 and more. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
