Psychological Sciences' Peer Mentor Program

The Psychological Sciences' Peer Mentor Program (PMP) is an organization that is dedicated to fostering a fun and successful college experience! Inexperienced Psychology majors and minors, as well as Exploratory majors interested in Psychology, are paired with an experienced Psychology major as a mentor. Mentors are responsible for helping and answering any psychology-based questions and concerns of the inexperienced mentee(s). Such questions may include when and how to apply for graduate school, how to get involved in a research lab, and what jobs are available for psychology majors upon graduation. Events will be held throughout the year to give students a chance to connect with other students, graduate students, and faculty.

This organization is 100% free to join! Whether you prefer to be a mentor or a mentee is up to you and your knowledge about Psychology. However, there are a few requirements to be either:

Mentees: Must be a Psychology major or minor or an Exploratory major with an interest in Psychology. NO GPA or completed credit hours required!

Mentors: Must be a Psychology major that has either completed 40+ credit hours (second semester sophomore) OR are in-progress/have completed six (6) Psychology classes. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or above. (If you have a GPA below 3.0, please still apply, but provide an explanation. You may be an exception based on your case). Of course, we expect you to have knowledge about things in Psychology such as classes here at Kent, as well as how to get involved in research labs and apply to graduate school, and more. If you do not know the answer to a question, please know how to point your mentee to someone who does. PLEASE NEVER guess or assume answers.

Please email pmpkent@gmail.com to request either a mentee or mentor application or see our application links below! Note: The application deadline for Spring 2021 is February 12th, 2021. New applications must be submitted every Fall, no matter if you are a new or returning member. New members are accepted in the Spring if they did not get a chance to join in the Fall!

We hope to see you join our organization!

Inexperienced Psychology majors and minors, and Exploratory majors, are paired with experienced Psychology majors as mentors. Mentors aid with psychology-based academic and career questions of the mentee. We accept both mentees and mentors! Read below!
