International Partnerships
The School of Communication Studies has established cooperative relations with the following international institutions to develop academic and cultural interchange through mutual assistance in the areas of education and research. Activities engaged in under the partnership agreements include but are not limited to: (a) the exchange of students from each institution for traditional student exchange programs; (b) the exchange of academic personnel for teaching, research, or both; (c) the organization of joint seminars and conferences; (d) the hosting of visiting faculty from other institutions; (e) the exchange of academic program materials; (f) the development of joint research and publications; (g) study abroad of students among institutions; and (h) development of special degree completion programs.

The academic partnership agreement between the School of Communication Studies at Kent State University and Jincheng College of Sichuan University permits eligible undergraduate students from Jincheng College who have the equivalent of 90 semester hours and the equivalent to a minimum of a 3.0 GPA to apply to the Master of Arts in Global Communication, Mediated and Mass Communication, Health Communication, or Interpersonal Communication program at Kent State while still an undergraduate. If admitted to the graduate program, students take graduate courses concurrently with their remaining undergraduate courses. The graduate courses taken by the student are counted twice: once as completion requirements for the student’s undergraduate major at JCC; and again, as graduate credit towards their master’s degree at KSU. Upon satisfactory completion of their fourth year of taking courses at KSU, and any degree requirements as stipulated by JCC, students would receive their undergraduate degree from Jincheng College in Chengdu, China and be formally admitted to the graduate program. Their fifth year, the final year of coursework, would be completed at KSU as well. Upon satisfactory completion of all degree requirements, a Master of Arts in Communication Studies degree would then be awarded by Kent State University. This program serves the dual purposes of: (1) accelerating the academic progress of gifted students; and (2) advancing academic recruitment and retention at Kent State University.

The School of Communication Studies offers an undergraduate exchange program and the special graduate exchange program for Global Scholars: Communication Studies through the partnership with the Macau University of Science and Technology in Macau. Selected student participants will enroll at MUST, KSU or KSU Florence, Italy, for one semester or academic year, depending on the students’ home institution. The program model involves all the students studying together as a cohort during select terms at MUST and at KSU. Students who satisfactorily complete their degree requirements will be awarded a degree from their home institution and a certificate of completion from the partner university.

Anglo-American University, Prague, Czech Republic
The Schools of Communication Studies and Journalism and Mass Communication offers a new study abroad opportunity in Prague, the capital and largest city in the Czech Republic. Modern Media and Democracy is a five-week seminar designed for undergraduate students who are interested in gaining an overview of the Czech culture, taking a more focused look at the media and democracy and improving their research and storytelling skills. The course, worth 3 credit hours, is co-sponsored by the Prague Freedom Foundation. Students spend the first three weeks at KSU reading, researching and preparing for the trip by gaining an understanding of Prague and the culture, government and media of the Czech Republic. In the third week, students select a research topic to explore while in Prague. The final two weeks of the course are in Prague, where students will study at Anglo-American University (AAU) located near Old Town Prague. While in Prague, students will regularly report on topics related to media and democracy, posting their stories and images on a course blog and website. As part of the Prague study abroad agreement, 10 students from AAU will come to Kent State in January 2014.
Applications will be accepted from any CCI undergraduate student. Admissions will be competitive, interviews will be required, and only 10 students will be admitted. Course and application information will soon be available online.
