LGBTQ+ History Month
About LGBTQ+ History Month (October)
LGBTQ+ History Month is a nationally recognized month that celebrates LGBTQ+ history and the advancement of rights for LGBTQ+ people. It has been observed annually in the month of October in the United States since 1994. It takes place in October to commemorate the first and second LGBTQ+ Marches on Washington, which both occurred in October in 1979 and 1987. This month also holds National Coming Out Day on October 11, which marks the date of the Second March on Washington in 1987.
We wish to honor the LGBTQ+ revolutionaries throughout the world's and Kent State’s history, as well as those still making strides as we work towards a better future.
