The Fight Against Toxic Algal Blooms Gets Help From the Sky

Researchers have a new tool to help study, and ultimately fight, toxic algal blooms on Lake Erie. They will start using drones to capture high-resolution images to better see what particles are growing in the water. The images, coupled with a calculation method developed by Joseph Ortiz, geology professor in Kent State University’s College of the Arts and Sciences, are expected to help prevent a water crisis.
