What inspired you to teach/to become involved in your industry?
Boyd started as a postdoc for NASA Lewis Research Center, in Cleveland, Ohio. While at NASA he worked with the assistant dean for the School of Technology, Kent State University who asked him to teach a few classes at Kent State University. He joined the School of Technology in 1997 as an Assistant Professor
What is the best part of your job?
Watching students take the skills they have learned at KSU and using them to have a successful career. Many students have student debut when they graduate but he enjoys seeing students be able to pay off their debut after graduation because of how successful they are in their careers.
Why do you like working at Kent State University?
Kent State University has so much to offer to both students and faculty including the abundance of resources that are available to be utilized. Boyd enjoys being surrounded by and working with all the talent and intelligent people that exist within the University.
What advice can you offer students just beginning their careers?
Boyd is a strong believer in hard work to accomplish your goals. Make sure you enjoy the field of your work and you are happy at your place of employment. Don’t be afraid to change jobs or move companies if you are not satisfied where you are.
What is your favorite topic to teach?
Boyd really enjoys teaching all of his classes. He currently teaches courses in programmable logic controllers, computer-aided design, mechatronics and FANUC industrial robots.
What are you most looking forward to seeing in the future of CAE’s aeronautics and or engineering programs?
For the future of CAE Boyd is looking forward to the new wing addition to the building to create additional space within the college and growth of enrollment in the college. Boyd would like to see vision classes added to robotics programs to give students more options after graduation.
