Daniel Issac, and Paul Coulter, both juniors in mechanical engineering technology in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering (CAE) placed first in LaunchNet’s 2020 Idea Olympics while Luke Leyden, sophomore, Computer Engineering Technology, also at CAE, placed second.
Kent State University’s (KSU) Idea Olympics is LaunchNet's annual business concept competition. Approximately $4,000 in funding is up for grabs as KSU students of any class levels or majors compete with their new ventures.
“I am so proud of Daniel, Paul and Luke,” says Assistant Dean, Jackie Ruller, CAE. “They take advantage of all of the opportunities that the university provides, which is exactly what employers are looking for.”
The finalists this year pivoted their presentations for a virtual event due to state and campus closures in response to COVID-19.
Issac and Coulter’s first-place presentation Calitronics, award made the team $2,000 wealthier while Leyden’s Trolder project came in second place for an award of $1,000.
Vlas Zyrianov, senior, CAE computer science student was among the finalists.
