Pilot Pinning Ceremony

Earning your Private Pilot Certificate is the first step towards an exciting career as a professional aviator. Let’s Commemorate and Celebrate!

The 2024 Pilot Pinning Ceremony will be held Thursday, September 5 at 5:30 pm at the KSU Airport.

Students who have earned their Private Pilot Certificate at Kent State University or have completed their first flight course at Kent State University are invited to participate in the ceremonial pinning of wings. Private pilots will receive 2 sets of wings from an alumni professional pilot from Kent State University. The wings will differ in size and include larger set to be worn at formal events and gatherings and a smaller lapel set to be worn in business casual settings.

Our industry partners are also proud to honor this accomplishment and will have a presence at this ceremony. Leaders and talent recruiters will be in attendance and are looking forward to talking with students about their career goals and the opportunities that exist within their companies and organizations.

Students that are recognized at this ceremony will:

  • Receive custom-designed metal Kent State wings and secondary lapel pin;
  • Create connections with KSU alumni pilots and industry partners;
  • Celebrate their achievements with family, friends, and support systems, who are also invited (and encouraged!) to attend.

Students who have received Certified Flight Instructor certifications are honored with an additional set of wings to commemorate the transition from student to mentor.
