Last year, more than 140 volunteers in the Kent State campus community contacted over 3,800 first-year students to check-in and ask if they needed any assistance from the university in the Flashes Take Care of Flashes call campaign. Feedback from the students was positive and many said they appreciated the outreach from faculty and staff. This outcome has driven the university to host another campaign this fall. Akron-based artist and Kent State alumnus Don Drumm, ‘86, was featured in the Akron Beacon Journal for celebrating the 50th anniversary of Don Drumm Studios and Gallery while continuing to create new works regularly. Students from the Kent State East Liverpool physical therapist assistant program observed National PTA Month by making donations to the Banquet of Lisbon. The PTA students raised $500 through fundraisers this semester that was donated to help the Columbiana County campuses host the banquet on Oct. 25. The students also collected non-perishable food items that were donated to the Banquet of Lisbon. Kent Skates will be a new, outdoor ice skating rink that will be free and open to the public. It will be open from Nov. 20 through Feb. 28, Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Use of the rink is free, along with free skate rental. This seasonal rink will be located on a section of East Erie Street, in downtown Kent, between St. Rt. 59 (Haymaker Parkway) and South Depeyster Street, between the PARTA parking deck and the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center.
