Jeanne R. Smith
Biography
Jeanne R. Smith is the Director of the Writing Commons and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English. She has taught College Writing, Research Writing, Tutoring Writing, Honors Colloquium, Introduction to Technical Writing, Principles of Technical Writing, Advanced Business and Professional Writing, Argumentative Prose, Expository Prose as well as other writing courses. She coordinates service learning experiences, writing center-related internships, individual investigations, guided research projects, and directs Senior Honors Theses. She is the Past President of the East Central Writing Centers Association and co-founder of the Northeast Ohio Writing Centers Association. She holds an MA from Binghamton University. Her research interests include writing centers, reflective practice, collaborative learning, writer metacognition, and writing consultant professional development. She serves on the University Teaching Council, the Writing Program Committee, and the Center for Teaching and Learning Advisory Committee. She is the Faculty Advisor for Kent State CHAARG and Kent State Dungeons and Dragons. In her free time, she enjoys cycling, gardening, hiking, and volunteering for various non-profit organizations in and around Akron, Ohio.
