How did you become involved in research at Kent State?

I became involved in research at Kent State during my senior year of high school. I participated in the PSEO Program, and was given the opportunity to intern for a psychology research lab through that program. Looking back, I am so glad that I took advantage of that opportunity because I have been involved in research since then, and it has really paid off!

What do you enjoy most about research?

The best thing about doing research is accomplishing things you never imagined you would be doing!

How do you think you have grown as a student and/or as a professional as a result of research?

As a result of my research involvements, I have grown both personally and professionally. I have learned much about myself – such as different research areas that I am interested in, my own academic abilities, and my ability to persevere. Professionally, I have learned how to work effectively with others, and have improved my public speaking skills.

What are the benefits of undergraduate research?

Participating in undergraduate research is beneficial for so many reasons! You get to explore questions that are interesting to you, improve your academic skills, and supplement information you learned through coursework. It also makes you a better candidate for graduate school.
