School of Theatre and Dance

Students and alumni of the School of Theatre and Dance's musical theatre program will perform at 54 Below, Broadway's Supper Club, on Fri., March 27, 2015 at 11:30 p.m. The one time only concert, "A Night With Kent State University," celebrates the School of Theatre and Dance's musical theatre program.

Matti Chrisman, a sophomore in the School of Theatre and Dance's Musical Theatre program, was crowned Miss South East Ohio on Feb. 21, 2015. 

School of Theatre and Dance alumna Therese "Tee" Boyich, who graduated in 2013 with a BFA in Musical Theatre, is the featured female vocalist in the theme song of the new Netflix original series "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt." Since the series' debut on March 6, the theme song has been called "perfect" by Wired and widely praised as a viral hit by publications like 

Alumnus Dylan Ratell, a 2014 graduate with a BFA in Musical Theatre, has joined the national Equity tour of Chicago The Musical  in the role of Mary Sunshine. Ratell previously portrayed Mary Sunshine in Porthouse Theatre's 2011 production of Chicago. The tour stars John O'Hurley as Billy Flynn and will perform across the United States and in Canada.

Since the debut of its first season on Netflix on Fri., March 6, new series "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" has garnered rave reviews. Co-created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, the show is executive produced by School of Theatre and Dance alumnus Jeff Richmond '85.

The Kent Dance Ensemble marks its 25th anniversary this year with its annual concert "Kent Dance Ensemble: 25 Years" and special alumni events. The weekend of performance and alumni celebrations will take place on Kent State University's Kent campus April 2-4, 2015.

The concert, featuring choreography from the Kent Dance Ensemble's 25 year history, will open Thurs., April 2 at 8 p.m. in E. Turner Stump Theatre located in the Center for the Performing Arts, 1325 Theatre Drive, Kent, OH 44242. The concert runs through Sat., April 4.

Kent, OH – Seventeen senior musical theatre students and two graduate students from Kent State’s School of Theatre and Dance will perform in New York on March 24, 2015 for industry professionals. The annual Musical Theatre Showcase allows graduating students planning on moving to New York City after commencement the opportunity to perform for prospective managers, agents and casting directors.

Kent, OH – Kent State University’s School of Theatre and Dance will continue its 2014-2015 production season with the B.F.A. Senior Dance Concert/Student Dance Festival: IMPULSE. The concert will run March 13-15 in the Erdmann-Zucchero (EZ) Black Box Theatre located at 1325 Theatre Drive in the Center for the Performing Arts. The concert is divided into two programs with Program A on March 13 at 8 p.m. and March 14 at 2 p.m. and Program B on March 14 at 8 p.m. and March 15 at 2 p.m.

Kent, OH – The School of Theatre and Dance at Kent State University continues its 2014-2015 season with the production of new musical “My Heart is the Drum.” The production opens Fri., Feb. 20 and runs through Sun., March 1 in E. Kent, OH – The School of Theatre and Dance at Kent State University continues its 2014-2015 season with the premiere of new musical “My Heart is the Drum" and the concert version of "Bonnie & Clyde." "My Heart is the Drum" opens Fri., Feb. 20 and runs through Sun., March 1. "Bonnie and Clyde: In Concert" runs Feb. 23-25, 2015. Both productions will take place in E. Turner Stump Theatre, located in the Center for the Performing Arts, 1325 Theatre Drive, Kent, OH 44242.
