Insurance Studies Students Attend National Conference
The Beta Nu Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma at Kent State University at Salem received three awards during the recent GIS International Conference in Chicago.
GIS is the international risk management, insurance and actuarial science collegiate fraternity. The Kent Salem Campus is home to the university’s insurance studies degree program and its students formed the Beta Nu Chapter of GIS last year.
The Kent Salem chapter received a special achievement award and was one of only 17 chapters to receive the International Chapter Award for a Well-Rounded Chapter.
The Grand Chapter of GIS also presented Kent State Salem with the International Chapter Award, recognizing its achievements in chapter management, membership development and public relations.
Representing Kent State Salem at the conference were Dr. Celeste Oprean, assistant dean of the Salem Campus; and insurance studies majors Gabriella Balcarcel, Jennifer Buck, Lisa Kesseg and Michele Quinn.
Aside from attending educational seminars and hearing industry experts speak, the students participated in a community service project at a park in Chicago.
