Flashes Fool Zips On April 1

Akron, OH

Coming off a loss in conference opener at Cleveland State, Kent State hit the road for the Battle of I-76 at the University of Akron. Starting in net was sophomore Jack Falconer, facing 28 shots, and only allowing 9 to slip by, paving the way for the offense to take control of the game. At halftime, the score was knotted up at 3 apiece. Then the fun began. After allowing the Zips to score directly off the opening faceoff, the defense tightened up again, allowing the midfield to start up the offense. Adam Belica solidified his bid for Midwest Conference Player of the Week, after netting 2 goals, and assisting 4 others, on top of the 3 goals at CSU. Also making their way into the goal column were Mike Argyros (3g, 1a, 4pts), Julian Pursell (1g, 1a, 2pts), Ryan Green (1g, 1pt), Zach Burdick (1g, 1pt), and Keith Hart, in his first game of the season, dropping two goals for himself, and rounding out the KSU scorers. With less than a minute left in the game, the Flashes up two and needing to keep the ball in the box, lapsed into a two man down opportunity for the Zips. With 16 seconds left, Akron put one in to bring them within one. The defense held on though to seal the Flashes first season, and conference wins on the season 10-9. Up next for the Golden Flashes are the Bowling Green Falcons, sitting at 3-2 overall, 2-0 in conference play.
