Weeks of Welcome

Get your spring 2026 semester off to a great start! 

To kick off the spring semester, there are countless ways to get involved outside of the classroom here on campus! Your involvement outside of the classroom starts with this first week of spring classes! Through our coordinated Weeks of Welcome program that goes from Monday, Jan. 12 through Friday, March 7, first-year students, that specifically include mid-year enrollees and transfers new to Kent State (starting with the spring 2026 semester) will have the opportunity to engage in programs, events, initiatives, and services that:

  • Develop Blue and Gold Affinity -- Generating school spirit for campus, the community, and KSU Athletics.
  • Community Involvement -- Familiarizing oneself with the Kent and surrounding community and how to get involved as a citizen. To learn more ways to get involved in the Kent community, please check out the following events calendar: Main Street Kent Events Calendar.
  • Academic Success -- Preparing for academic excellence.
  • Campus Resources -- Introduce important student services and resources on campus.
  • Sense of Belonging -- Feel a stronger sense of belonging to both the campus and surrounding communities.


Weeks of Welcome Events

Week One: Jan. 12 - Jan. 17, 2026

Monday, Jan. 12, 2026 — Pop Into a New Semester (College of Aeronautics and Engineering)

  • Kick off the semester with fresh, buttery popcorn while catching up with friends, meeting faculty and staff, and soaking in the start-of-term vibes. 
  • This event will take place at the Timken Atrium in the Aeronautics & Engineering Building from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026  — Flash Activities Board's (FAB) Karaoke

  • Join FAB in the Rathskeller for a night of Karaoke! Bring a friend and sing your heart out. Enjoy some food from Grill '72 as well!
  • This event will be in the lower level of the Kent Student Center from 7 - 9 p.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026  — Kent State Women's Basketball versus Ohio University

  • Stop by the MACC to cheer on the Lady Flashes as they take on the Bobcats from Ohio University in the first home women's basketball game of the semester.
  • Make sure to claim your free student ticket using the following. LINK.
  • The game will tip off at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026  — College Late Night Skate

  • College Skate Nights are Wednesday nights at the KSU Ice Arena for Kent State college students with a current college ID. 
  • Cost is $5 (includes skate rental). No cash payments at the Skate Rental and Concession counters. CREDIT/DEBIT CARD PAYMENT ONLY (Visa, MC, Discover)
  • College Skate Night admission sales will begin 30-minutes prior to the session start time.
  • This event takes place from 10:30 p.m. - 12 a.m. at the KSU Ice Arena.

Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026  — Intercultural Student Life Open House

  • Join ISL for our Spring open house! Meet the staff, ask your questions, play some games, and eat some free snacks!

  • This event will take place at suite 219 on the second floor of the Kent Student Center from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 16, 2026  — Spring Student Organization Fair

  • Come out to the Kent Student Center to meet members of over 80 student organizations and university departments to kick off the spring semester!
  • The Spring 2026 Student Organization Fair: tabling and outreach event for registered student organizations to have visibility in the campus community, recruit new members, and network with each other. 
  • Campus partners are also welcome to interact with students, show visibility on campus, and share resources.
  • This event is a great way to learn about more ways to get involved on campus outside of the classroom. 
  • There will be raffles, giveaways, and more. So, stop on by!
  • This event will take place from 3 - 5 p.m. on the second floor of the Kent Student Center.

Friday, Jan. 16, 2026  — Kent State Men's Basketball versus University of Toledo

  • Stop by the MACC to cheer on the Golden Flashes as they take on the Rockets from the University of Toledo in the first home men's basketball game of the semester.
  • Make sure to claim your free student ticket using the following. LINK.
  • The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 16, 2026  — D1 Hockey versus Canisius University 

  • Stop by the KSU Ice Arena as the Golden Flashes take on the Golden Griffins from Canisius University on the ice.

Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026  — Kent State Women's Basketball versus University of Akron

  • Stop by the MACC to cheer on the Lady Flashes as they take on the rival Zips from the University of Akron.

Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026  — D1 Hockey versus Canisius University

Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026  — Transfer Student Welcome

  • University Orientation and Visit Experience and the Center for Student Involvement invite all new transfer students to a special welcome reception.  
  • Reconnect with the TKS Ambassadors you met at orientation, meet and mingle with other incoming transfer students, get some KSU swag and play some games all while enjoying some treats.
  • This event will take place from 3 - 5 p.m. at Studio One on the second floor of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
  • Students can attend at any point during this period. Please note for students that stay to the end of this event, are free to join the group that will go to the Flash Activities Board's and Recreation and Wellness Services' WinterBlast event (at the Rec Center also) directly afterwards. 

Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026  — WinterBlast

  • The Flash Activities Board's (FAB) and Recreation and Wellness Services' (RecWell) present the largest, welcome back spring semester event on campus, WinterBlast!
  • At WinterBlast, there will be 500 exclusive crewneck sweatshirts to giveaway, food/snacks, fun activities, a dodgeball tournament, a winter olympics'-themed incentive activity for a chance to win a KSU hockey sweater, horse and carriage rides, s'mores, and more!
  • This event will take place from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
Week Two: Jan. 19 - Jan. 24, 2026

Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026  — Intercultural Student Life's Global Community Hour

  • Global Community Hour (GCH) is a monthly event that brings together the Kent State community for afternoons of conversation and friendship with international and American students. 
  • Come make friends, play games, and eat free snacks! 
  • This event will take place from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. in room 220 of the Kent Student Center (Pepsi Leadership Center).

Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026  — Kent State Men's Basketball versus Miami University RedHawks

  • Are you the biggest Disney fan on campus? If you believe so, put your knowledge to the test by competing in the Flash Activities Board's Disney Trivia.
  • The winner of each round will take home an exclusive prize bundle.
  • Also, come for some sweet deals at Grill '72 that will only be active during the event. 🧀 Get Mozzarella Sticks for only $4.99 during the event!
  • This event will take place from 7 - 9 p.m. in the Rathskeller at the lower level of the Kent Student Center.

Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026  — Main Street Kent's Snow Day

  • Save the date for Snow Day 2026 presented by Main Street Kent!
  • Live music, fire pits, s'mores, games, activities, ice sculpting and...FIRE DANCERS!?!? Yes!
  • Also, make sure to stop by Dan Smith Park for the Kent State University take over (or KSU Olympic Village). There will be fun, winter olympic-inspired activities for a chance to win a variety of giveaways from Daisy Pops and more.

Week Three: Jan. 25 - Jan. 31

ALL WEEK — Poster Sale

  • Thee biggest and newest back to school poster sale is coming to Kent State!
  • The sale is put on by the company the College Poster Sale and is sponsored by the Flash Activities Board (FAB).
  • The sale will be all week from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on the second floor of the Kent Student Center.

Wednesday, Jan. 28 — College Late Night Skate

  • College Skate Nights are Wednesday nights at the KSU Ice Arena for Kent State college students with a current college ID.
  • Cost is $5 (includes skate rental). No cash payments at the Skate Rental and Concession counters. CREDIT/DEBIT CARD PAYMENT ONLY (Visa, MC, Discover)
  • College Skate Night admission sales will begin 30-minutes prior to the session start time.

Thursday, Jan. 29 — FLASH ACTIVITIES BOARD'S (FAB) Stuffed Animal Bingo

  • Come to room 218 of the Kent Student Center for FAB's first bingo of the spring semester!
  • The theme of this bingo will be stuffed animals. So, come out for a chance to win some furry friends!
  • This event takes place from 7 - 9 p.m.
Week Four: Feb. 1 - Feb. 7

  • Casino Night will offer a fun and lively atmosphere with mocktails and a variety of games like poker, blackjack, Uno, Left Center Right, and more. 
  • Every time a guest wins a game, they’ll earn tickets they can enter into one of four exciting raffle baskets, giving everyone a chance to win cool prizes while enjoying the games!
  • This event will be at the Schwebel Room on the third floor of the Kent Student Center from 7 - 9 p.m. 

Saturday, Feb. 7 — Kent State Women's Basketball MAC/SBC Challenge

  • Stop by the MACC to cheer on the Lady Flashes as they take part in the annual Mid-American Conference versus Sun Belt Conference Challenge!

Wednesday, Feb. 11 — Kent State Men's Basketball versus Eastern Michigan University

Friday, Feb. 13 — Global Safari Fest

  • Travel around the world without leaving Kent State! "Safari" is a Swahili word that means, "journey" or "expedition", and at Global Safari Fest, be ready for a journey! 
  • Global Safari Fest is the largest event the International Student Council puts on each year. 
  • It is hosted in collaboration with I Heart Travel Week
  • At this event, attendees will be given a "passport" with which they can travel to many different countries during the country fair. Then, attendees will get to taste food from around the world and watch a showcase of cultural performances.
  • This event will take place from 5 - 8 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom.
Week Six: Feb. 15 - Feb. 21

Saturday, Feb. 21 — Flash Activities Board's Roaring Night Out Formal Dance

  • Make sure to stop by the Flash Activities Board's (FAB) winter formal dance at the ballroom of the Kent Student Center.
  • This dance is free of charge. However, students must reserve their spot ahead of time in KSU Engage. Tickets in KSU Engage will be live from Jan. 19. through Feb. 19.
  • Each student can bring one non-KSU guest if they so choose. All attendees are required to check in with a valid ID.
  • This year's theme will be the roaring 1920's. Think of The Great Gatsby!
  • This event will take place from 7 - 10 p.m.
Week Seven: Feb. 22 - Feb. 28

Saturday, Feb. 24 — Kent State Men's Basketball versus Central Michigan University

  • Stop by the MACC to cheer on the Golden Flashes as they take on the Zips from the University of Akron.

Saturday, Feb. 26 — Civic and Community Engagement's Dinner with Friends

  • Dinner with Friends is a civic dialogue program that brings Kent State community members together over a shared meal to explore community issues in a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment. 
  • Each conversation creates space for curiosity, storytelling, and relationship-building across differences, helping students practice the habits of civil discourse and democratic engagement. 
  • By slowing down, listening deeply, and connecting with new people, students discover their own agency and build a stronger, more empathetic campus community.
  • This event will take place from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Schwebel Room on the third floor of the Kent Student Center.

Saturday, Feb. 28 — Kent State Women's Basketball versus Central Michigan University

  • Stop by the MACC to cheer on the Lady Flashes as they take on the Chippewas from Central Michigan University.

T-Shirt Giveaway Contest

This first week of the semester will be filled with awesome activities and events to engage in outside of your classes. So, be sure to check out many of these opportunities (listed below). We are excited to welcome you as a member of the Golden Flashes family! The first 100 students that check-in with a FLASHcard and/or ticket to at least four of the below listed events through this first week of the semester will win the pictured, exclusive long sleeve t-shirt, courtesy of the Center for Student Involvement. As long as you check into these events, you will be automatically entered into this contest.

Explore KSU Pathway

Want to get more involved in Weeks of Welcome activities and have a chance at $500 and $250 merit-based scholarships, in addition to winning one of 25 Flash Plushes (pictured below)? If this describes you, then try out the Explore Pathway in KSU Engage. Through completing various activities on campus and in the Kent community, and recording them in the pathway in KSU Engage by March 20, students will be entered for a chance to win the aforementioned prizes.
