Don't Forget to Show Appreciation for Your Student Employees
We encourage all departments to show appreciation for their student employees during the week of April 10, designated Student Employment Appreciation Week. Express your appreciation by handing out simple thank you cards, surprising students with a homemade treat or a number of other student employee recognition Ideas.
Another great way to show appreciation for your students is to place an ad in The Kent Stater's special edition of Student Employee Appreciation Week on Thursday, April 14. The ads also appear online in Kentwired.com. For more information on advertising, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Performance evaluations for classified and unclassified employees will take place from March through June.
Online performance evaluations for classified employees will take place March 21 through May 30. Unclassified employees will conduct evaluations April 4 through June 13.
Managers and supervisors of classified employees will receive an email prior to March 21 with detailed instructions. As a reminder, access is available to the performance log employees and supervisors can use throughout the year to record personal accomplishments, training and discussions.
There also are two webinars available for supervisors and managers.
The first, "Navigating the Online Evaluation Process," will familiarize evaluators with the online assessment tool and will be offered on April 12 from 2-3 p.m., and again on April 20 from 10-11 a.m.
The second webinar, "Assessing and Improving the Performance of Others," is a webinar for new managers and supervisors offered April 15 from 10-11 a.m., and April 25 from 2-3 p.m.
More information will be posted to the Human Resources performance evaluation website.
If your department is interested in having a Human Resources representative present an overview of the evaluation process in person, please call Karen Watson at 330-672-4636, or email email@example.com.
Spring Employee Recognition Events - Save the Date
Mark your calendars now for the university's two annual spring employee recognition events. The Office Support Staff Luncheon will be held Wednesday, April 27, in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. This invitation-only program recognizes university employees who provide office support in departments throughout Kent State's campuses. Invitations will be mailed the first week in April. Managers and supervisors are asked to coordinate work coverage in their units so invitees may attend.
One of the exciting features of this luncheon is the opportunity for support staff to win door prizes. Thanks to the generosity of various departments throughout the university, we will continue with this tradition. An email communication has been sent to department leadership requesting support in donating a door prize or gift basket for this years' event. A door prize committee member may also reach out to your department to request your support in donating a prize. For questions regarding donations, please contact Alexsa Wanchick at 330-672-8322.
The 20-Year Club dinner will take place on Tuesday, May 24, in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. There are 50 staff members who will mark 20 years of continuous service at Kent State during the current fiscal year. The list of inductees is available on the 20-Year Club website. Additional information and more details on the dinner will be available on the website next month.

Summit Street Improvement Project: What You Need to Know
Construction is underway on the first phase of the Summit Street: Building a Better Way improvement project, which runs from Fraternity Circle to Whitehall Boulevard (just past Loop Road near Whitehall Terrace).
Here's what you need to know:
- One-way, one-lane eastbound traffic is scheduled to begin in that area March 7 and continue through November.
- Access to buildings and parking lots in the construction area will be maintained at all times.
- A video depicting detour and campus-access traffic patterns is available here. Please watch the video to help you navigate the area during the construction period.
- The new traffic patterns also will result in changes for several PARTA bus routes. The new routes began Feb. 29 and impact the Campus Loop and Summit East routes. In addition, the two bus stops on the north side of Summit Street across from Whitehall Terrace and University Town Homes apartments will not be serviced until further notice.
- Detailed information on the PARTA bus routes is available at http://www.kent.edu/summitstreet/parta-bus-routes.
For timely information about the construction project, visit www.kent.edu/summitstreet.
Questions about PARTA schedule and bus routes can be directed to 330-672-7433. Questions about the construction project should be sent to email@example.com.
