Geauga Student Nurse Association Participate in Relay for Life

Posted Jun. 3, 2013

The end of spring semester had the members of the Geauga Student Nurse Association quite busy. They participated in the 2013 Relay for Life of Middlefield calling their team "Stomp on Cancer".

The student nurses participated in several ways. First, they sold rose bushes for the Rose Garden—a special memorial garden of roses in memory or honor of those touched by cancer, where they  won  the honor of having sold the most rose bushes of all the participating teams. Next they had a team that participated in the 5K/1 mile race at 9 am. Ashley Toth, junior nursing student, ran the 5K and was the winner in her age category! John Granny, Business Services Administrator at Kent Geauga, provided entry fee and Kent Geauga T-Shirts for the 5K/1 mile participants. And finally, the GSNA Team had a table along the track with activities and took laps all day long.

Students who participated in this event included Ashley Toth, Jeff Ionone, Alexandra Ruiz, Jacklyn Lamison, Stephanie Green, Julie Krause, Tiffany Columbia, and advisor Kay Gurtz. Some of the team members also had friends come along for the 1 mile walk and a few laps of the track. Their combined fundraising totaled $937 for this American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Middlefield event.
