Sines supports students by establishing new scholarshipPosted Dec. 4, 2013
Continuing his staunch support of both higher education and family, former dean for Kent State University at Trumbull, Robert Sines, has established the Kathryn L. Sines Single Parent Scholarship in recognition of his wife.
Kathryn Sines earned an associate of applied business (’88), a bachelor’s of business administration in human resources, cum laude ('91) and a master’s of business administration ('93) from Kent State University. She began her college studies as a non-traditional adult student and a single parent, and was instrumental in establishing the Adult Non-Traditional Students (ANTS) scholarship endowment at Kent State Trumbull.
The recently created scholarship will be endowed, and support single parents attending Kent State Trumbull. “Kathryn and I felt it was time for us to give back to others,” said Robert Sines. “We are both at a point in our lives where we are able to lend a hand to individuals in need.
“Kathryn started college as a single parent and told me of the many challenges she faced,” Sines continued. “In addition to working and caring for her children, she was able to receive scholarship support that was critical in continuing her studies. We felt that if we could make a difference in the life of a single parent going to college, we should do something to assist them. Knowing that this scholarship will be helping someone meet their educational goals is a very good feeling.”
In addition to establishing the scholarship, Robert Sines has also actively supported the campus faculty and staff scholarship on an annual basis. “Bob has really led by example in generously supporting our campus scholarship program,” said David Smith, director of advancement at Kent State Trumbull. “Hopefully he will inspire others to give back to this great campus and the students we serve.”
