After a COVID-19 related layoff, Kent State Trumbull psychology major Krysta Forrest is using her spare time to put out fires, literally.

The 2018 LaBrae/TCTC graduate has been volunteering for the Braceville Fire Department for two months. She volunteered sporadically while attending classes and working full-time as a cleaning technician. She was also set to begin a fire class to become a firefighter. Then came COVID-19. Forrest was laid off from her job.

Dear Students,
As you are all now aware, Kent State University, as with other universities across the state and country, has now moved to remote instructional delivery through the end of the semester. This is in response to state and federal calls for public institutions to stop the spread of COVID-19 through social distancing. In addition, to prevent gatherings of people and encourage social distancing, campus buildings will now be closed for the remainder of the semester.

This year's graduating high school seniors with a cumulative GPA of 4.0 will be able to attend Kent State Trumbull this fall, tuition-free! The campus has added the Full-Tuition Scholarship to its list of other automatic freshman scholarships.

The scholarship completely covers fees and yearly tuition, which is under $6,500 this year. Students must maintain a 3.5 GPA to renew the scholarship for three additional years.

Kent State University at Trumbull proudly announces students who were named to either the President's or Dean's lists for their academic achievements during the Fall 2019 semester.

In recognition of an extremely high level of academic excellence, a President's List is compiled each academic semester. To qualify, students must have a grade point average of 4.00 and must have completed 15 or more letter-graded credit hours (A, B, etc.) by the end of that semester.

On Tuesday, Kent State Trumbull officially added Women’s and Men’s Bowling to its athletic program. Dale Johnson of Champion was named head coach. 

Johnson has competed at state and national levels since he was 18. He began coaching Champion High School in 2010 and became head coach in 2014, the same year they won an Ohio High School Athletic Association state title. 

The campus revived its athletic program in 2017 with Women’s and Men’s Cross Country.

This Saturday, Oct. 12, more than 50 participants representing 12 local schools will compete for the Valley Cup. Kent State Trumbull's Esports Team under faculty leadership and with the support of Kent State Trumbull personnel are hosting this tournament.

Competition begins at 10 a.m. in the Thunderdome Arena, located in the Technology Building at Kent State Trumbull, 4314 Mahoning Ave. NW in Warren. Team and individual games include Overwatch, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros., League of Legends, and Madden 20.

Kent State Trumbull and Eastwood Mall are hosting the 8th Annual College Night on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Center Court. Representatives from over 75 colleges and universities will be available to meet prospective students and answer questions.

Over the next two Saturdays, Sept. 21 & 28, Kent State Trumbull and its Diversity in Action Council, with generous support from Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, will host free theatre workshops will host free theatre workshops facilitated by James “Joey” Caverly, guest artist & director.
