In late November, Kent State University at Trumbull sophomore Deneen Penn was crowned Miss Ohio Collegiate America 2017. Penn, who is a Business Management major, advances to compete this summer for the title of Miss Collegiate America.

At the pageant, which was held at Henri’s Cloud Nine store and Polaris Fashion Place mall in Columbus, Penn competed in three phases: Interview, Fun Fashion, and Evening Gown.

This school year, close to half a million dollars was awarded to Kent State Trumbull students! Campus friends, businesses, foundations, faculty/staff and the local community make these scholarships possible for new freshman, transfers and currently enrolled students.

Dr. Valerie Cubon-Bell has been named one of three campus-wide recipients of the Outstanding Teaching Award presented by the University Teaching Council. Each year, Kent State University honors full-time, non-tenure-track and part-time faculty members who are nominated by their students and peers for being among the most dedicated, highly effective and motivated professors at the university.

On Monday, Oct. 3, "Ottoman Ties: European Art Music from Former Ottoman Lands and Viennese Ottoman Representations" will be performed by Katherine Meizel (Bowling Green State University), Eve McPherson (Kent State University at Trumbull), and Ralitsa Georgieva-Smith (Cleveland Institute of Music). The concert of classical vocal and piano features music by composers from Bulgaria, Turkey, and Sephardic communities, as well as Ottoman-inspired music by Mozart.

Sam Olson is beginning her last year in the Veterinary Technology program at Kent State University at Trumbull. In doing so, she has decided to make her final fall semester a memorable one.

After seeing four one-week-old kittens who were dropped off at the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County, she decided to put her acquired skills into action.

Olson completed paperwork to become a foster parent to the four kittens. She is essentially try to nurse the kittens to adoption age, which means around-the-clock care. Kittens require bottle-feeding every two-three hours.

More than 35,000 students nationwide were recently displaced when ITT Educational Services Inc. closed its chain of technical colleges. To assist students, Kent State University at Trumbull’s Enrollment Management and Students Services department is offering “Let’s Make a Plan: An Information Session for Former ITT Students” on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Kent State Trumbull’s Auditorium.

The event, which is free and open to all former ITT students and their families, begins at 6:00 p.m.
