Great Place Initiative Accomplishments

The Great Place Initiative (GPI) was formed in 2017 to address the results of the 2016 Climate Study. The GPI Task Force conducted a deep dive review of the primary data sources in order to identify short and long-term efforts to make improvements for all at Kent State. This university-wide task force split into five subcommittees with specific focus areas. Below are some of their accomplishments:

  • Student Subcommittee
    • Establish a “Culture of Care”- Flashes Take Care of Flashes
    • Revised FYE model
    • Established the CARES Center
  • Staff Subcommittee
  • Faculty Subcommittee
    • Creation of a faculty mentoring award
    • Increased faculty mentoring opportunities
  • Ad Hoc on Race
    • Hosted the Symposium on Race in 2020
  • Ad Hoc on Disability
    • Increased accessibility trainings and awareness of offerings

The GPI committees disbanded in 2020.
