Great Place Initiative Accomplishments
The Great Place Initiative (GPI) was formed in 2017 to address the results of the 2016 Climate Study. The GPI Task Force conducted a deep dive review of the primary data sources in order to identify short and long-term efforts to make improvements for all at Kent State. This university-wide task force split into five subcommittees with specific focus areas. Below are some of their accomplishments:
- Student Subcommittee
- Establish a “Culture of Care”- Flashes Take Care of Flashes
- Revised FYE model
- Established the CARES Center
- Staff Subcommittee
- Creation of the Staff Council
- Approved Flexible Work Policy
- Drafted telecommuting policy (later implemented due to Covid-19)
- Faculty Subcommittee
- Creation of a faculty mentoring award
- Increased faculty mentoring opportunities
- Ad Hoc on Race
- Hosted the Symposium on Race in 2020
- Ad Hoc on Disability
- Increased accessibility trainings and awareness of offerings
The GPI committees disbanded in 2020.
