'Keep Going, Keep Growing'

The Kent State Student Leadership Consultants (SLC) hosted the "Keep Going, Keep Growing: A Student Organization's Guide to Making Meaningful Change" workshop Tuesday, Nov. 8, that showed students how strong leadership can be used to fundamentally change the culture in their workplaces.

Jessica Roshak, assistant director of Leadership Development, led the event to help turn students into future leaders that can make meaningful change on campus and at their future employers.

“I think change management is important because we never really think about the root of problems,” Roshak said. “We sometimes put little Band-Aids and fix our problems for a semester then wonder why we see the same problem year after year.”

Roshak’s presentation lasted a full hour and covered how to promote change, address your own biases and understand the idea that the old way we do things may not always be the best way.

The event was also designed for leaders in student organizations to gain expertise on how to better administer their groups in the future.

Caitlin O’Brien, a marketing management sophomore, attended the workshop as a member of Student Accessibility Services.

“These help me gain a new perspective and outlook on both my own personal life, schooling and how I can better my day-to-day schedule,” O’Brien said.

The SLC provides consultants for peer training in leadership, lesson planning in-person and on Canvas, and various workshops and training across campus.
