In honor of Earth Month at Kent State and sustainable practices, Employee Wellness is hosting a used clothing drive April 22-26. Catch us at Earth Fest on Apr. 22 to drop off clean, gently-worn clothing, or drop off your donations in the marked bins which will be located at Heer Hall, Kent Student Center or the Library. Donations will be distributed to local organizations.
An upscale evening-wear collection, employing couture techniques, embodies "Indomitable" resilience. Textile manipulations, like hand-sewn pinstripes, depict trauma and subsequent rebuilding. Graffiti's rebellion inspires vibrant colors, while germ theory motifs symbolize regrowth. Referencing resilient symbols from black culture, like the zoot suit and durags, it embodies enduring influence.
This collection explores how fashion and print can be used to articulate challenges both girls and women face in our society. Cyanotype was used to dye the fabric and create the prints by using UV lamps to photograph the prints and transform white fabric into a colorful collection.
This collection searches the "Archetype" of Mexican (and Latin American) Woman archetype by exploring the spectrum of femininity and the idea(s). Rather than accepting and eternalizing a concrete stereotype influenced by religious icons such as The Virgins, the artist explores the spectrum of womanhood and its different expressions valued from authenticity.
